Ultrasound Therapy is an effective treatment for heel pain/plantar fasciitis and is indicated as a treatment modality when the following outcomes are required:
- Reduction of muscle spasm
- Relief or reduction of pain
- Joint contractures
- Local increase in circulation
Ultrasound acts to send shockwaves to the area being treated, the sound waves then penetrate through to the deeper tissues to stimulate an increase in local blood flow to the area.
This then, in turn, helps to decrease/sooth tissue inflammation temporarily, promoting muscle relaxation and thereby reducing pain.
